yesterday’s stage reached gambassi therme, a tiny ancient town about 30 km closer to rome, named for its thermal springs.
a very special part of the trail was finding ancient shells from when the area was under the ocean 5 million years ago.
although one other treat of the day was supposed to be a swim in the thermal pools the town is named for, it was really gelato the second the “oasis di pellegrino” bar was reached on the trail.
the pilgrim accomodation was not much further, and a wonderful historic church grounds to wash clothes by hand and eat a pasta dinner.
the spectacular sunset created a perfect light to look at every olive tree and oddity in the yard.
