On April 26, in less than 3 months, I will be in London, to run one of the biggest marathons in the world!
It’s cool to wake up everyday knowing this is the critical period where I have the opportunity to train and give myself fitness and strength to carry me on this special day.
To shuffle out of the dark, flick on a light, pull two mismatched socks and a pair of thick runnings tights on. To walk down the driveway, iPhone flashlight turned on, one ear listening to some dancey electronic music for motivation, one ear listening out for coyotes and deer that apparently roam free in Greenwich.
I don’t know how fast I’m going anymore, but when I start to warm up inside my coat, and the music starts to sound really good, I feel like I’m doing it again.
I like the tired feeling in my legs throughout the day and the simple calm I feel. I like being just a little lighter, a little hungrier, and a little more wide-eyed by lunch time.
I like that in a world of endless possibilities, running as a ritual that creates its own set of necessities and constraints.
